"Libertadores"

Hace un año hoy, comenzó la opresión más fuerte sobre la población nicaragüense en años. Más de 350 personas murieron en el lapso de 3 meses de la mano de los paramilitares siguiendo órdenes del gobierno. Pero si estás leyendo esto, probablemente conoces los hechos, reconocidos y confirmados por las organizaciones de derechos humanos como la CIDH.

Para conmemorar un año de resistencia, estoy compartiendo esta pieza que hice alrededor de julio de 2018.

Cada trazo de pintura representa una vida caída por la patria, cada uno de ellos ahora parte de nosotros, salieron a la calle para defender pacíficamente sus derechos y nunca regresaron a su casa. "Libertadores" es un intento de representar a cada una de estas valientes personas que al dar su vida por su país forman nuestra Bandera Azul y Blanco, una bandera que ha sido nuestra única arma.

Cuando las noticias llegaron de las primera muertes, no lo podría creer, pero las imagenes y vídeos no mienten. Una mezcla de impotencia y tristeza profunda de ver tanta gente inocente morir. Que podía hacer en ese momento, como podría expresar mis sentimientos a través del arte? La imagen de la Bandera de Nicaragua, formada por las personas que murieron vino a mi mente. Pero cada día se sumaban 5, 10 o 20 más a la lista.... Sentía que no tendría ningún valor finalizar algo que parecía nunca terminar y me sentía devil, en animo y espíritu. Estoy segura que muchos nos sentimos asi.

Hasta que un grupo de Artistas nicaragüense de diferentes géneros se unió, buscábamos la manera de recaudar fondos para ayudar de alguna manera a la crisis que esta pasando en Nicaragua.

La Voluntad y apoyo de estas artistas me empujo a realizar esta obra que representa a cada una de estas personas con un trazo azul formando la Bandera de Nicaragua, finalizando con un signo de más ya que fueron más las victimas. Como una coincidencia celestial, las muertes masivas cesaron poco después de terminar la obra. Claro que la represión y encarcelamiento de más de 750 personas siguió, junto a innumerable injusticias.... Pero parte de mi se sintió aliviada de que no habían más muertes.

En lo más profundo de mi alma, sé que esta es una lección muy muy dolorosa que todos los nicaragüenses tuvimos que experimentar. No ha sido fácil, y solo he vivido una parte desde muy lejos… Pero yo sé que tomaremos este dolor y valentía lo transformaremos en una forma de vida más elevada de libertad, amor y hermandad para nosotros, nuestros hijos y nuestro País.

‘ Libertadores” A year ago today marked the beginning of the deadliest oppression of the Nicaraguan population in the countries history. More than 350 people lost their lives in the space of 3 months at the hand of Paramilitary soldiers following orders by the self-imposed government. If you are reading this then you probably know the facts, acknowledged by the heads of Human rights Organizations like the #CIDH.

To commemorate a year of resistance I am sharing this piece I made around July 2018.Every stroke of paint represents a life taken away by the government and its followers. Each of them a part of us, who went to the streets to peacefully defend their countries rights and never came back home. “Liberators” is an attempt to represent each and every one of these brave people and how their life was given for their country making our Blue and white Flag, a flag that has been our only weapon.

When news came of the first deaths, I could not believe it, but the images and videos do not lie. A mixture of helplessness and deep sadness to see so many innocent people die. What could I do at that moment? How could I express my feelings through art? The image of the Flag of Nicaragua, formed by the people who died, came to my mind. But every day 5, 10 or 20 more were added to the list.... I felt that it would have no value to finish something that seemed to never end and that hurt my spirit and will, I'm sure many of us felt that way, until a group of Nicaraguan artists from different genres came together. We were looking for ways to raise funds to help in some way the crisis that is happening in Nicaragua.

The will and support of these artists pushed me to make this piece that represents each person with a blue line forming the Flag of Nicaragua, ending with a plus sign as there were more victims. As a heavenly coincidence, the mass deaths ceased shortly after finishing the piece. Of course, the repression and imprisonment of more than 750 people continued, along with countless injustices....

But part of me felt relieved that there were no more deaths.

In the deepest of my soul I know this is a hard painful lesson all Nicaraguans had to experience, some with ultimate consequence. It hasn’t been easy, and I’m only experiencing a part of it from far away. But I know, we will take this pain and transform it into the most liberating and loving ways of living, for our children, our country and us. Nicaragua stays strong, we will never forget the more then 350+ deaths and the hundreds more disappeared and probably death, more then 750 political incarcerated and more then 20,000 exiled. WE WILL NEVER FORGET.
