I have been accepting portraits commissions for the past 2 months in Nicaragua. Its feels very rewarding to receive the trust of different people to paint themselves or loved ones they way I see them.
But I received a very special commission last week, I have been requested to paint my own version of a painting that my grandfather did more then 34 years ago. WOW!- I was impressed of what a wonderful opportunity I have received!
I never met my grandfather, but he was a very influential artist in Nicaragua, he lived and learnt abroad and came back to Nicaragua to share his knowledge and introduce modern contemporary art to the traditional Nicaragua.
He was the director of the now named after him, Rodrigo Penalba School of Arts of Nicaragua and though a whole generation that are now masters of the Arts representing Nicaragua and Latin America Worldwide.
He was an amazing portrait artists as well. But when I say amazing I mean really prime level realistic and enchanting drawer and painter. He commissioned paintings for the elite social families and friends to maintain his numerous family.
So I said YES to the commission, even though I have never done this in the past and I was not sure how the result was going to be.... my gut said Yes! JUST DO IT!
And here is the result, I love my version, it is a 32X40 Inches acrylic on canvas painting, a bigger and colorful approach to the original charcoal on paper of my grandfather. His piece is so real is fascinating, I feel mine more fantastic! I loved this project!
I feel positive about how much I will enjoy to keep improving and continue to play with colors.
