As mermaids have been coming around I wanted to continue the Mermaid inspiration pieces I started in Greenport, NY. I adored the Peach-white-gold color of the little nackar shells that also came out in a mermaids hair.
That same tone with fluorescent pink and all the beautiful blues make the sunrises and sunsets so beautiful in Cabarete, Dominican Republic.
I want to share my story of each mermaid <3 and hope you enjoy the ride trough the beautiful sunset and sunrise colors of their journey.
Mermaids
Mermaids as water women who's soul flow without effort in the ocean and nature with love and passion.
They swim deep in the ocean and come out to play at sunrise & sunset where their rainbow hair turns into the colors of the sky.
Here portraits of these magical beings come to life through the play of colors and golden lights on paper.

Sirenas
Sirenas como mujeres con espiritu de mar, sus almas fluyen en el oceano con amor y pasión.
Pasan sus dias en el fondo del oceano, y vienen a la superficie a la hora del atardecer donde sus pieles toman el color de los cielos.
Retratos de estos seres mágicos toman vida con el juego de colores y luces doradas en el papel.

Mermaid Natalia
Every summer she swims to Greenport, NY to play with the summer vibes of the time. Her skin is cooler and takes light differently, you can see her green scales become gold, and then blue to the touch of the light.
Her pupils are in shape of stars so she can see in many dimensions at all times.
She is the first mermaid I painted in the garden of a lovely house in Greenport. Lots of strokes of color under the shadows skies made her have thick blue hair that I love.

Cada verano ella nada a Greenport, NY para jugar con las vibras de verano de la época. Su piel es más helada y reacciona a la luz de forma diferente, se puede ver como sus escamas verdes se convierten en oro, y luego en azul al exponerse a la luz del sol.
Tiene pupilas en forma de estrellas que la dejan ver la realidad en varias dimensiones a la vez.
Ella es la primera sirena que pinté en el jardín de una casa encantadora en Greenport. Muchos trazos de colores fueron pintados en su cabello bajo las sombras de los arboles, dandole una cabellera azul y gruesa que me encanta.

She is from Peconic Bay. Summer is her favorite time and her beauty is eternal.
As the color of the clouds at sunrise, her hair changes into pure melting colors.
She always flows in Peace. She is love.

First Mermaid I painted in Cabarete, she welcomed me so joyfully and filled with paradise essence. She loves watching the kiters fly nearby as she knows the water is part of us all to play.
I get to feel the sun and special breeze, people are magic and I am so grateful to be here.

Primera sirena que pinté en Cabarete, me dio una feliz bienvenida y llena de esencia de paraíso. Le encanta ver a los kiters volar cerca, ella es generosa y sabe que el mar es de todos nosotros para jugar.
Tengo la oportunidad de sentir el sol y la brisa aquí tan especial, la gente tiene magia y estoy muy agradecido de estar aquí.
I wanted to make a lighter painting that travelers can roll into tubes in their suitcases and bring home some Love Art from Cabarete. So I tried this thinner paper I found in the Local stationary store. This paper reacts differently to acrylic so i painted with thinner layers of colors and I named them 'Young Mermaids'.

Quería hacer una pintura más ligera que los viajeros pueden enrollar y meter en un tubo y en sus maletas y llevar a casa Arte de amor de Cabarete. Así que traté con este papel más fino que encontré en la tienda local de oficina. Este papel reacciona diferente al acrí lico por lo que pinte con capas de colores mas finas y las llame "Sirenas Jovenes'
Young Mermaid I
The first and sweetest mermaid I found playing on the reefs near by. Her colors came exactly as I would have designed in a wonderful dream. She comes from a tribe of Mermaid families that go around and stay in different bays for the seasons, they love to travel and meeting new cultures.
I can see all the layers I painted, this makes her so pure and natural. I really love this piece.

La primera y más dulce sirena que encontré jugando en los arrecifes del area. Sus colores llegaron perfectos como si la hubiera diseñado en un maravilloso sueño. Ella viene de una tribu de familias que nadan por todo el Atlantico y se alojan en diferentes bahías por temporada, les encanta viajar y conocer nuevas culturas.
Puedo ver todas las capas que pinté, esto la hace tan pura y natural. Me encanta esta pieza.
Young Mermaid II
She lives in a mother of pearl cave, no humans has ever seen. Her skin soft as pearl turns to gold at the touch the Sun light.
The expression of this mermaid was always a little serious. I normally try to keep painting and let it change into a joyful reflection of her essence. But I though maybe this one was not so happy to see me as she feels all humans are harming the ocean life...she knows we have damaged a lot of creatures in land and knows she will defend the ocean with all her power.
So she has many layers, colors on top of colors until I felt she was ready to show. And I am OK now with her expression as I respect the feeling I got and its right. Nature is our treasure as we are part of it.

Ella vive en cuevas de perla nácar que ningún humano jamás ha visto. Su piel suave como la perla se convierte en oro al tacto de la luz del sol.
La expresión de esta sirena ha sido siempre un poco seria. Normalmente trato de continuar pintando y dejar que surja la esencia alegre y natural de de la persona. Pero tal vez ella no estaba muy feliz de verme ya que no le gusta que los humanos estemos ensuciando sus mares. Ella sabe que hemos dañado muchas criaturas en la tierra y sabe que ella va a defender el océano con todo su poder.
Ella tiene muchas capas de colores y pare hasta que sentí que estaba listo para mostrar. Ahora estoy bien con su expresión, respeto el sentimiento que tuve y su derecho. La naturaleza es nuestro tesoro ya que somos parte de ella.

The last young mermaid I painted, as many other tries I did on this format, but they did not seem to come in flow as the others did.
So I started again. and again, and again.
Softly, patient, light-filled with water colors.
Coming back to the clouds
and feelings I get during sunsets and in the sunrise surf.
This Young mermaid also travels around the Atlantic ocean.
She loves how her hair transforms into a rainbow of colors lightly lifted trough the wind waves.

La última sirena joven que pinte, hice muchos mas intentos en este formato pero no todos lograban fluir como los demas.
Así que empecé de nuevo. intente otra vez, y otra vez.
Suave, paciente, llena de luz con los colores llenos de agua.
Volviendo a las nubes
y los sentimientos que siento durante los atardeceres y amaneceres.
Esta sirena joven también viaja por todo el océano Atlántico.
A ella le encanta cómo su cabello se transforma en un arco iris de colores ligeramente levantada por las olas de viento.

Gentle she swims. Native of the Caribbean Sea her body's temperature is higher. She flows with peace and with a heart on her throat speaks only the truth of love.
It feels she came out of the water for this paint. brown hair melts like sweet cacao.

She is also from the area, she swims the Atlantic ocean along the cost, from the caribbean islands to the costs of Brazil.
Her strength makes her very sexy, she loves being a mermaid, her body and how her spirit is part of all. She is in love with life.

La última sirena que pinté antes de mostrarlas todas.
Ella también es de la zona, ella nada toda la costa del océano Atlántico, desde las islas del Caribe hasta las costas de Brasil.
Su fuerza la hace muy atractiva, le encanta ser una sirena, su cuerpo y cómo su espíritu es parte de todo. Ella está enamorada de la vida.
